Miss Daisy The Art Critic

This is Miss Daisy Wisham.
This is the second dog that I painted for my Shelter Project.
Daisy is a beloved family member. When Daisy and her Mother Suzanne walked into my den to pick up her painting, Daisy looked at her painting and did a double take. We laughed and she wagged her tail. I hope she was giving me her approval. I am always delighted when I see an animal do something out of the ordinary. I think we have all laughed at the dog that says "I ruv ru" or how about on "King of The Hill" when Hank teaches Ladybird to dance the two-step. I think animals are gifts from God to give us joy.
This is an oil on linen painting by Englishman, Thomas Earl (Maude's Father) circa 1870.

Murphy

This is Murphy.
Murphy lives in Valdosta Georgia. He is the Beloved Boy of a young married couple. I love the beautiful colors of a Golden Retriever. This painting glows because the colors of Murphy's coat and the pillows are complementary colors. They are opposite each other on the color wheel. If you want your colors on a painting to "pop", look at a color wheel. Use colors that are directly across each other. I have an old framed needlework sampler that says, "A home should be lived in, and dogs should be on sofas." I would let this beautiful boy on my sofa any time. Life is short. Sofas can be cleaned.
This is a painting of a Golden Retriever by Maude Earl, circa 1800.

The Puggles

These are only three of Liz and Jack's Pugs. They are beautiful, serious show dogs. I didn't know much about Pugs until I met these guys. I quickly fell in love. They came to see me at my house so that I could get some photos. I laughed so hard at their antics, I could barely hold the camera. All I could think of while I was photographing them was, these are naked fat angels! I think they are really like cherubs. I just heard that one of them, Fern, may be expecting. How cute would a Puggle be in a baby bonnet? I hope somebody gives her a baby shower. I'm going!
This is a painting by Gourlay Steell, called The Drumplier Pugs, circa 1867. It is a tempera on board of Queen Victoria's pugs.

Champ

This is Champ.
Champ started his life as a "give away" He would never be considered a "give away" now. This sweet boy has 3 little children that love him dearly. He is a babysitter, watchdog, and an occasional bed warmer when his Grandmother comes to town. A dog on a warm hearth, how comforting.
This is a portrait from Pitochry Scotland, circa 1910. It was painted by a wonderful English artist named Mauguerite Collyer.

Sweet Sandy

This is Sandy.
Sandy is a reindeer chihuahua.
She has a wardrobe of clothes and beds that I envy.
Her story as we know it, started with her being a shy little girl at The Animal Shelter.
A young girl fell in love with Sandy and Sandy fell in love with her.
Sandy and the young girl are in college now.
Sandy is just one of the "Girls".
Sandy is a beloved member of this South Georgia Family.
I'll bet when it's time to graduate, Sandy will have a cap and gown!
This is a painting by Charles Van den Eycken.
It is called "The Gourmet", circa 1877.

Tootie Toot

This is Mama's Little Man known as Tootie Toot.
I was approached by a friend to paint a little Yorkshire Terrier for a friend whose home had burned.
My friend was desperate to find a way to put a smile back on her friend's face.
I had no idea that the Yorkies owner was a friend of my sister Beth.
My sister Beth asked me what I was painting.
I told her whose little dog this was.
She told me how friends were surrounding this Girl and her Family with love.
I was thrilled to be a part of such a loving act.
Tootie Toot loves his new house.
There is the cutest picture of him, on his Mother's Face Book page, eating his birthday cake, on his second birthday.
This little painting is painted by a wonderful artist named Maud Earl.
The painting is called "A Clean Plate With Terrier", circa 1887.
